Go Red for Women
Campaign
As women we do so much. Whether it be our husband and children, our aging parents, a sibling or our friends - we are care takers. We do this amongst careers and our homes. We take care of everyone else and therefore sometimes
So - this month of February, let it be your month. Make a commitment to take care of yourself. You know how on the airlines when they give the speech about seatbelts, emergency exits and oxygen masks? They tell you if you are with a small child - put the mask on yourself first and then the child. You know why, right? You won't be much good to them if you don't. Take that attitude now.we forget about ourselves. But, who is going to do all that we do if we aren't here to do it? I know time is short but if we encourage each other to make small changes just a little each day before long we won't know any other way.
Heart disease is the #1 killer of American women. Now I won't even pretend to be an expert - but here is the place to go so *you* can become one -
I encourage you to go and read - take their checkup - and then perhaps come to the message board and share with the rest of us. I hope to start a new thread each morning - but please feel free to start your own as well. So - this event is more about educating ourselves and taking care of ourselves along with the 'fund raising'. I only have a few items to auction - relevant and current - and the proceeds will benefit the American Heart Association.
Click here to go to the auction items.
There is also a wonderful "Evening with David" raffle package filled with ways to help you pamper and educate yourself. There is a bag filled with some of David's works: includes Police Academy VHS, Big Town VHS, The Climb VHS, Clockwatchers DVD and the PAL version DVD of the Man Who lost Himself. Also a CD with the JAG theme, poems from Dodson's Journey, David singing "Have I told you Letely, (JAG) and Good Night Sweetheart (Knots Landing) and a few others . There is a coaster, magnet, bookmark and keychain. There is a box of chocolates - Dark chocolate to keep in our heart healthy theme. Also, not pictured, is 3 cookbooks from the American Heart Assoc.
There are three ways to get raffle tickets. The first is to make a donation. For every dollar you donate, your name will go in to the hat. You can sends those donations to me (checks made out to American Heart Assoc.) to be mailed all together with our other proceeds or you can donate at their website, your preference. Just send me an email letting me know of your donation. (you should get some kind of an email confirmation from them that you can copy to me). The American Heart Assoc. has sent me 10 red rubber bracelets inscribed with "Learn and Live" and also 10 of their Enamel Red Dress lapel pins. These will go out to the first 10 donations received.
The dress pin is so cute! Second, you can win an auction. Your name will go in the hat 3 times for an auction win. Third - and this is the hardest - participate in the threads. Share a story or an experience. Encourage someone here that has made the commitment. Make the commitment yourself! For each one your name will go in the hat. So take a page out of David's play book (I have to relate this back to him somehow, don't I?? LOL) and start excercising, eat right and get healthy. The benefits are endless! So come on Ladies - lets do this for us and for all women.
